Pros: Powerful, large, bake and nuke Cons: Turntable mechanism breaks, hard to clean
I bought this as a display model from Sears. I'd used many Sharp carousel microwaves before and been quite pleased with them, and I knew about the convection baking, so I wasn't squeamish about parting with $250+ for it. It bakes, it roasts, it ...
Pros: Good features, convection cooking result in good tasting food Cons: Poor quality, Overly expensive repairs, Manufacturer has poor customer attitude and worst customer service.
Would not recommend this Microwave at all. It has good features and we like the convection cooking, but the down sides make it not worthwhile to own. Downsides: 1) Breaks often. It blows an internal fuse that Sharp has placed behind the security ...
Pros: Looks great, works well so far, programming the same as 20 years ago Cons: Price.
After using Sharp convection/microwave ovens for over 20 years I decided to buy one for myself. I stuck with Sharp because of their familiarity...they are all practically the same in programming and functions. I won't go into all the boring details in ...
Pros: Great.Eight years & still works great. No service issues. Bakes well, good size oven. Cons: I wish it liked action movies. I'd never remarry.
I'm shopping for a new LCD tv and have spent far too much time reading product reviews lately. You gotta wonder sometimes if some people make a living at this...or at least I wondered it as my chicken pot pie was doing its time in my eight year old ...
Pros: Everything about this oven! Sensor reheat feature. Convection cooking. Cons: It died after so much use and abuse.
I currently have the predecessor to this model of the Sharp Convection/Microwave and it has lasted just short of 10 years. It is the best convection/microwave on the market, I have 6 other friends that have them and love them. Mine is used and abused. ...
Pros: Large metal cooking pan, auto baking and cooking, and racks for more than 1 pan. Cons: Spindle for metal turntable pan too week, is very hard to keep clean.
I have had 2 of these ovens, boy do I love it! But the first one after a year broke, the turntable spindle stripped out, had the warranty but they told me it couldn't be fixed. My husband and I loved it so much I spent days trying to find another one. I ...
Sharp microwave convection oven Model R-930AK by flowerlady611 ,Oct 25 '03
Pros: fast cooking, convection very convenient Cons: Poorly made, not durable, difficult to keep inside clean.
This microwave convection combo worked well but was difficult to keep clean. It also broke twice within 2 years. First, after a year and AFTER the warranty expired, the motor for the rotating turntable burned out and had to be replaced for $140! Less than a year late, the entire microwave died completely!! Not made very well nor did it last very long. Not worth the expense!

Pros: Features, size Cons: Overall quality
Based on our experience, I would stay away from this oven. When we brought the FIRST one home, the door was out of alignment and you had to tug on it to open it. We returned it to the store and ordered another one. The first time we used the convection feature we cooked frozen fish sticks and after the recommended cooking time, they were still frozen in the middle! Even after twice the cooking time, they were only barely warm. Out of curiosity, I placed a thermometer in the oven, set it to 400 degrees and the highest temperature it reached was 150 degrees. Needless to say, we returned this one also and did not order another. Sharp's quality leaves something to be desired.
Pros: None Cons: Does not seem to work without needing repairs.
While my model number is older than the one offered I felt compelled to write this review. The convection part of this unit failed after it was out of warranty. The door is broke in several places and the door open lever that only costs $14 just broke. I contacted Sharp customer service to see if they would at least send the cheap door open lever and they elected not to provide any assistance. My appeal was made based on reading Consumer Reports where this brand was around 3 to 4 times more likely to have repair issues than the competition. Had Sharp been more helpful this review would not have been written but I would recommend you spend your money elsewhere!
Sharp R-930 Convection/Microwave is great! by swamp-lass ,Oct 18 '04
Pros: Convection bakes evenly, browns nicely, temperature can be set for slow cooking, great for roasts. Cons: The oven does not accommodate a pan larger in length than 13".
This oven replaces my old one. It gave me 20 plus years of trouble free great service with no repairs or problems. This is the only oven I have in my kitchen so it's used for everything from baking the Thanksgiving turkey to baking cakes & bread. I am already very pleased with this new one. Microwaving is faster, compu-cook works great. This is just an all around great oven.

Pros: Easy to use and operate and does an excellent job baking. Cons: Breaks often
This oven does a great job in baking and microwaving. However, the motor that runs the turn table is very prone to breaking. It's hard to understand why, after having this model on the market for many years, Sharp has not been able to correct this problem. My oven broke the first time while it was still under warrantee. The other times, I had to pay for the repair which is not an inexpensive.
Pros: Utterly reliable cooking, great for convection use, no problems of any kind. Cons: Possible brand degeneration, according to the reviews I have read.
I write this review as my second Sharp goes out of commission after 11 years of daily service without a hitch. My first lasted another 10 years and only blew up because someone stuck a metal pot in it. I initially bought it, in spite of the hefty price, because it was large enough for my needs, it had both convection and microwave options, and the carousel, which allowed it to cook more evenly. I have loved Sharps because they have been utterly reliable. However, from what I have read, it seems that quality has degenerated precipitously, along with service. I now have second thoughts about a third Sharp.
Good quality been using this model 10 years by lazzar ,Mar 29 '08
Pros: Holds up to heavy every day use Cons: size
We have been using this microwave every day with a family of 5
The convection works great for baking, but we don't use it much
it has needed some minor repairs as expected. the emitter plate which cost $6.00 needed replacement because my kids cook bacon and don't clean the grease afterword. It can be changed by removing two screws from inside the oven. Also one of the door switches broke from slamming the door too many times. A generic micro switch cost me $5.00 but i had to open the cover to replace it.
Overall i recommend this microwave. It still looks new. I just need to replace it for a smaller model.
Nice and not too hard to follow instructions by dasjumes ,Apr 25 '08
Pros: Eliminates the need for microwave + toaster oven on my counter Cons: Experience with a professional/commercial restaurant equipment is helpful
I just bought one of these refurbished on E-bay for a total of $132. (including shipping) delivered to my door. I read the forums and it seems this oven is loved and reviled at the same time. I figured if I bought one cheaply, then it wouldn't be as bad if it dies. So far I have used it to make frozen taquitos, spanish rice and peppers, and a frozen pizza. It is really nice to replace my toaster oven and microwave with one appliance. My mom had a little Magic Chef Micro-Bake about 20 years ago so I fell in love with the concept then. I would never use this oven to cook bacon, burgers, fresh chicken or a steak. I really think the clean up would be more work than just using the big oven or my grill.
Also- I like the cheat-sheet quick cooking guide that came with it. As far as letting kids (or even my 40 yr old husband) do anything except use the microwave function-I would think twice about that unless they've been to cooking school and understand the Grill and Convection differences.
Buy something else...Sharp Company has gone to the dark side by innocentbuyer ,Aug 30 '04
Pros: works fine when electricity is not applied Cons: works horribly if required to actually cook
Bought the R-930AW model. Right out of the box, it wouldn't cook even a muffin in the convection mode. Got that fixed. Now, three days from warranty end date...the oven won't even heat at all. The response from Sharp was that "things happen" and that's why they are offering to sell me an extended warranty. When the customer service representative got snippy with me I asked to speak to her supervisor, I was hung-up on.
Bottom line....poor products, no support from Sharp for their defective spawn. Look elsewhere.
